Seamus Flynn
Preferred Name: Shamo
Bike: Yamaha Tenere 660
Role on ride: Look after Statt
Profile:
Shamo hails from County Cork in Ireland and first came to Australia in 1997 on a mission to travel around the great brown land. After a short spell back home and almost 13 years later I now live on Phillip Island near Melbourne with my wife and our two young children.
An E&I Supervisor by trade, he has worked on various construction projects across Australia and in New Zealand and is currently contracted to Theiss Degremont at the Victorian Desalination plant. A keen rider and his favourite toy is his 2009 Yamaha XT660Z Tenere which I ride whenever I get the chance.
Any opportunity to see more of this wonderful country is always welcome and when the idea of riding from Perth to Brisbane with a bunch of mates on motorbikes came up there was little hesitation at saying ‘YES!’
Reason for becoming an Adventurer:
When he heard that we would use our adventure to raise money for childhood cancer made it even more worthwhile.
In January this year my wife’s cousin had her two year old son diagnosed with a brain tumour. Within days of hearing those devastating words he had undergone major brain surgery followed by weeks of radiation, something someone so small should never have to endure. Fortunately for Bill’s family and due to incredible efforts by the medical team at Sydney Children’s Hospital his treatment so far has been successful and we all hope and pray that it shall remain that way.
Unfortunately for others this isn’t always the case and that is why the work that the Telethon Adventurers do is so important. I will be extremely proud to endorse this cause on this trip.
Hopefully by attempting this trip we can help raise some much need funding and highlight the very important need for ongoing research into the area of childhood cancer.
