About Us
The Telethon Adventurers fundraising group was established in 2010 by Rick Parish and Peter Wilson. Rick's 4-year-old son Elliot Parish touched the hearts of Western Australians as he bravely fought and eventually lost his battle with cancer.
In 2010, The Adventurers raised $920,000 in just ten months and purchased a 3D molecular imaging machine for the Telethon Institute for Child Health Research – the first of its kind in the southern hemisphere. The machine, which was named after Elliot, tracks and tests laboratory-grown tumours, and assists with the diagnosis and treatment of young cancer patients.
Today, The Adventurers have the full support of the Telethon Institute and Princess Margaret Hospital. Telethon and Kerry Stokes have pledged their full support, including matching The Adventurers' fundraising efforts dollar for dollar starting at $500,000 per year, and The Adventurers have officially been renamed The Telethon Adventurers.
In 2011, The Telethon Adventurers hope to more than double their first year's fundraising efforts and have set a target of $2 million.
